Clive Williams

BSc(Hons) FCOptom

Optometrist & Director

Clive studied at City University, London in the 1970s, completing his professional qualification a year later following a spell in the Gwent Valleys. His contact lens experience continued to develop in New Bond Street, London and in hospital practice in the Middle East, before returning to the delights of West Wales. He started the Baker Street practice in 1982, and over the next decade took on the Machynlleth and Aberaeron practices.

After setting up in Aberystwyth and Machynlleth, Clive had itchy feet leading to a trip to Tanzania in 1985 with an American Optometric Voluntary organisation. The British contingent returned to the UK and decided to follow their American colleagues’ example and set up a similar charity which became known as Vision Aid Overseas (now Vision Action). Clive was the VAO treasurer for the initial 5 years and a founding Trustee of the charity. His services to the charity lead to him being awarded an Honorary Life Membership.

Clive has special interests in complex contact lens fitting and low vision, and is a Welsh speaker.
